Withthe capo at 2, your open G tuning becomes open A, and your C, F and G chord shapes come out sounding as D, G and A. MOST tablature that calls for capo will be written as if the capo is the new virtual nut. Strings that are "open" but capoed will be tabbed as zero. All fret numbers will be relative to the capo location, not the actual fret.

Someguitarists choose to use a capo on the second fret with this tuning so that they can retain the ease of playing power chords without the darker sound created by the D tuning. Dropped C: C-G-C-F-A-D; This tuning is the same as dropped D, but each string is lowered an additional whole step, or two semitones. Technically a "drop C" tuning

Youmight as well be doing the low E with a pitch-pipe and doing the old fashioned Low E 5th fret = pitch on Open A and all that jazz. Forget that! Get a cheap electronic tuner, and put capo on 2nd fret (a must!), and tune up the standard strings to E, A, D, G, B, E. Then tune your high "little" E and B strings to standard E and B pitch.

Soif you transpose -1 you put your capo on the 1st fret, e.g. if a song is in Fm, transpose -1 and capo 1 to play in Em relative to the capo. Or if you transpose -2 you put your capo on the 2nd Option1: Stay in Standard Tuning, Capo 2nd Fret on thinnest 5 Strings. I suggest playing this song with a capo (2nd fret) across the thinnest 5 strings only, while keeping the strings tuned to standard tuning (EADGBe). This lets you play a D chord using all six strings, while also playing the G chord like you normally would. Best of both worlds! Forevery half-step that you downtune your strings, move you capo up the same number of frets. For example, you'd place it on the first fret for downtuning one half step, second fret for downtuning one whole step, etc. Because capos put strain on your neck, I wouldn't recommend placing it any further than the 5th fret.
